Why it matters
A coop that never sells stalls: no space for new eggs, no Money for the next hatch, and event loot gets missed. A coop that sells blindly loses its egg route progress. The triage below keeps both sides healthy.
The Sell Triage: Four Buckets
Sort every chicken into one of four buckets before selling anything:
- Carry — your best fighter in the current activity. Mid-game carry picks are never sold.
- Route — chickens on a path to a rarer egg or a fusion outcome. Keep even the weak-looking ones.
- Fuse parent — the donor or base you are saving for a specific fuse. Same rule: keep.
- Sell — duplicates and dead ends. Only this bucket gets sold.
The habit that protects you: double-tag before selling. If a chicken could be route or fuse fuel, it is not a sell.
Never Sell These Early
Community route reports list chickens that look like sell fodder but unlock something bigger:
| Chicken | Why It Must Stay |
|---|---|
| Cosmo Brat | The start of the NPC Chick route — sell it and the chain stops. |
| NPC Chick / Stone Face | Feeds the 404 Chick route. Keep a spare before banking. |
| Agent Cluck | Unlocks the Fortune Egg line — a rare source of luck-buff chickens. |
| Ballerina Hen | Leads toward the Balloon Egg family of rare layers. |
| Astro Chick / Commando Rooster | Route fuel for Void and Ordnance outcomes. See the Void Egg page. |
| Viking Chicken | A strong carry line on its own and part of the Scratch egg route — keep at least one. |
When in doubt, check the chicken against the egg route & laying tree before selling. A chicken on the tree is a chicken you keep.
Fusion Fuel vs. Sell Value
The money question is: sell it or fuse it? Community guidance:
- Duplicates of a route chicken: keep one for the route, use the spare as fusion fuel if a relevant fuse is available — a fuse outcome is usually worth more than the sale price.
- Dead-end rares: sell them. Their value is their price tag, not their future.
- During a fuse streak: protect locks and donors; sell only when the bench is full and the next fuse is set. See our Fusion Guide for the base-donor rules.
When to Sell — Timing Rules
- Sell after claiming loot. Event eggs and code eggs fill the coop; clear the sell bucket right after claiming so you never reject a free egg.
- Sell before opening rare eggs. A full coop can block the hatch. See how to hatch eggs.
- Never sell mid-route. A route chicken sold now costs a re-hatch plus the grind — usually more than its sale price.
- Keep event space free. During Chicken Boss / boost events, leave slots open for the event's eggs instead of hoarding dead-ends.
- Check the Incubator first. The chicken parked in the Incubator is not in your coop view — never sell its only copy by mistake.
Common Selling Mistakes
- Selling your last route chicken. Always keep one copy of anything on the route tree.
- Selling before claiming codes. Free code eggs are lost if the coop is full. Claim codes first, sell after.
- Selling for a short-term Money fix. If you are short on Money, see make money fast — selling route fuel is the most expensive shortcut.
- Selling during event pressure. Chaos, hot, and UFO events flood eggs in; make room by selling dead-ends, not carries.
Sell Chickens FAQ
Does selling refund my hatching costs? Community reporting says the sale price is the chicken's base value, not a full refund of every cost invested. Mid-route chickens almost always lose value if sold.
Can I sell a 404 Chick or rare egg chicken? Only if you have a spare. Rares are worth more as route or fuse material than as cash.
How do I know if a chicken is sell fodder? Run the four-bucket triage. If it is not a carry, not on a route, and not a fuse parent, it is a sell.
