Golden rule: the skill is only as good as the base it sits on
A top-tier ability on a weak roster still loses. Fuse the skill onto a strong base before relying on it in the PIT or TOWER.
- Skills unlock through fusion. Lock a donor trait onto a base fighter to grant it the donor's special ability.
- Passives matter offline too. Laying and money passives keep producing while you're away — worth prioritizing early.
- Check the pool before committing. Rare eggs like the Thunder Egg are the realistic route to meta-carry skills.
Prioritise skills by game stage
The right skill to chase depends entirely on where you are, because a skill's value is relative to what is holding you back right now. A passive that only matters at the top of the tower is dead weight in the first hour, and a flat early-damage skill stops scaling once fusion takes over. Sort your priorities like this instead of chasing the flashiest ability you saw in a clip:
- Early game — economy passives first. Anything that raises laying or money while you are offline compounds around the clock. This is the single highest-return investment you can make in the first sessions.
- Mid game — one carry, one killer skill. Stop spreading ability unlocks across the roster. Concentrate on turning a single fused fighter into a boss-killer and let the rest support it.
- Late game — trait synergy over raw power. At the top end the win condition is stacked, locked traits on one carry, which beats a bench of individually strong birds.
Trait locking in practice
Locking is the mechanic that makes skills permanent. When you fuse, the donor can pass its trait onto the base; locking that trait means later fusions cannot overwrite the thing you cared about. In practice this turns fusion from a gamble into a plan: you decide which trait your carry must keep, lock it, and then feed everything else in as fuel. Two consequences follow. First, a mediocre donor with the right trait is more valuable than a rare donor with the wrong one. Second, you should decide your target trait before you start fusing, not after — see fusion & trait lock math for the order of operations.
Common mistakes when unlocking skills
- Unlocking a great skill on a weak base. The ability inherits the base's stats, so a top-tier move on a low-attack bird still loses.
- Chasing rarity instead of role. A common donor with the correct damage trait beats a rare one with a cosmetic passive.
- Rerolling before locking. If the trait you want is not locked, the next fusion can erase it — lock first, then improve.
- Ignoring offline passives. Skills that keep working while you are away are free progression; treat them as an income stream, not a combat stat.

Frequently asked questions
Do skills carry over after a rebirth? The skills locked onto your roster stay with the birds that hold them, which is another reason to concentrate them on one carry rather than spreading them thin.
Can I undo a skill unlock? Not directly — that is why locking the trait you want before fusing matters. Decide your target, then commit.
Are passives worth it if I play daily? Yes. Offline passives are the one upgrade that works while you are logged out, so they pay back the soonest.
Should I lock a trait before or after I improve the bird? Lock first. Locking protects the trait from being overwritten, so it must be in place before you run any further fusions. Improving the base without the lock risks erasing exactly the skill you were chasing.
